The Community Council have been trying to find out what the future post office provision plans are. They’ve haven’t said much till this week. The letter, in the blog below, boils down to: “We are writing to inform you that, regrettably...the above branch will be closing temporarily on Friday 28 September 2018...I can assure you that we will continue to work to find a solution that will provide a Post Office service to the Bonnyrigg community.”
I think these are some other facts gleaned from different sources:
1. The staff have all been given notice. (Staff told folk)
2. The post office advertised it for about 2 weeks before the ad came down (don’t know if that’s positive or negative) (This was from folk watching the post office website like a hawk)
3. The next post office being advertised was a level of service down from the one we have currently.
4. The Coop manager asked Coop to have it in the shop and remodel. But he was told no, it’s Coop policy to not have them in store anymore.
The documentation states there is a community engagement process they will go through for a ‘closing temporarily’ office like ours. See the letter on the blog below.
