This single-carriageway road is currently subject to the National Speed Limit. This means that cars, car-derived vans and motorcycles etc are limited to 60 mph; buses, minibuses and large vans are limited to 50 mph; and goods vehicles heavier than 7.5 tonnes laden weight are limited to 40 mph.
The road is undulating and bendy, with poor sight lines; lacks or has very poor footpaths in some sections; incorporates accesses to industrial premises; and includes a section of permanent one-way signal-controlled operation on the bridge over the River South Esk.
For road safety reasons Midlothian Council believes that speeds on this length of road should now be limited to 40 mph for all classes of traffic, as indicated on the accompanying plan. There will be an opportunity to register any formal objections when the proposed Order is advertised in due course. But if you wish to make any comment at this stage, please let the Community Council know by e-mail to [email protected].
Closing date for comments will be Friday 26 October.
